Brazil eyes additional fighters, advanced training aircraft

29 November 2016
The Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira – FAB) is looking to acquire additional fighter aircraft as well as advanced trainers, Lieutenant Brigadier Nivaldo Luiz Rossato, the FAB’s commander, told IHS Jane’s .

The frontline combat fleet mainly comprises modernised Northrop Grumman F-5EM/FM Tiger IIs and a mix of legacy and upgraded AMX International A-1A/B fighters that are to be withdrawn over the next 10 years. The service is looking towards a potential future purchase of around 50 aircraft. That opportunity will eventually involve an international competition open to interested bidders, Lt Brig Rossato said.

Any such fighter procurement would be in addition to the current F-X2 programme.
