Russia to ship first S-300 missile system to Iran in Aug-Sept: RIA cites official

The first delivery of Russia’s S-300 missile defense system to Iran will take place in August or September this year, RIA news agency on Friday quoted Sergei Chemezov, the head of Russia’s industrial conglomerate Rostec, as saying.

RIA quoted an unnamed source earlier as saying that first S-300 missiles would be shipped to Iran already in February.

The USAF’s Cycle Management Center announced that the infrared search and track (IRST) pod for the F-15C must have data sharing capability between 4th & 5th gen. fighters. In a sources-sought notice published on Tuesday , a key requirement for the pod is that it must talk to the F-22’s Intra-Flight Data Link (IFDL) and the F-35’s Multifunction Advanced Data Link (MADL) via Link-16 and create a “Common Tactical Picture (CTP).”

Northrop Grumman unveiled a new sensor pod capable employing of multiple, interchangeable sensors, including an infrared search and track (IRST) system. The manufacturer’s new “OpenPod” announcement on June 2 came months after Lockheed Martin introduced its new Legion Pod with IRST system, designed for F-15C and F-16 retrofits.

The OpenPod is an evolution of Northrop Grumman’s AN/AAQ-28(V) Litening pod, a multi-sensor targeting and surveillance system that has been integrated on eight aircraft types, including the F-15 and F-16. Any Litening pod can be converted to an OpenPod, and sensors can be swapped out without modifications to the aircraft or its mission computer, the manufacturer said.

Lockheed Martin’s Legion Pod, unveiled in February. Legion Pod is a derivative of the company’s IRST21 sensor for the US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Lockheed intends to qualify the Legion Pod on the F-15 and F-16 with test flights planned this spring and into 2016. Mocarski declined to name any specific aircraft type for Northrop’s product, but the F-16 and F-15 would be ideal candidates.

BTR-82A APC

The BTR-82A is an advanced 8×8 wheeled armoured personnel carrier (APC) being manufactured by Military Industrial Company of Russia for use by the armies of Russia and Kazakhstan.

The first prototypes of the vehicle were unveiled in December 2009. The APC’s features were demonstrated during the 15th Interpolitex State Security Materiel Show at the All-Russia Exhibition Centre in Moscow in October 2011. It was also displayed at the Russian Expo Arms 2011 show in Nizhny Tagil.

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan accepted 30 new BTR-82A combat vehicles in December 2012. The vehicles were deployed with the military unit 25744.
